Bitcoin Lightning Network: A Caching Layer For Bitcoin

Project: Bitcoin Lightning

In March 2015 Joseph Poon and Tadge Dryja released a draft paper showing how bitcoin microtransactions could be safely routed through arbitrary paths off the bitcoin blockchain, with only minor changes to bitcoin itself. In the excitement that followed, Rusty Russell was hired by Blockstream in June to try to implement their ideas.

Everyone interested in bitcoin should attend this talk. There will be demonstrations of cryptographic dexterity, wild feats of futuristic prediction, and displays of financial recklessness and derring-do!

Rusty Russell

Rusty Russell is a Linux kernel hacker who changed trains recently to journey into bitcoin-land. He's fascinated by micropayments and even implemented his own (now-defunct) sidechain. He works for Blockstream remotely from the small village of Adelaide.
