<strong>Welcome to the Linux.conf.au 2015 wiki</strong>
The LCA2015 Delegate Wiki is embedding interactive maps directly onto wiki pages, to make it more convenient for delegates to find relevant locations without having to leave the wiki. This facility is provided via the [[mw:Extension:Maps|Maps]] Extension for MediaWiki.
+

== Why only Google Maps are showing ==
+
This wiki is provided for those attending linux.conf.au 2015 in Auckland New Zealand to add information that would be useful for other attendees.
Our hacking on the Maps extension so far has shown that without the added support of the full [[mw:Extension:Semantic_MediaWiki|Semantic MediaWiki]] (SMW) installation, the Maps extension works sufficiently, but only with Google Maps. To enable the full featureset of the Maps extension would require installing SMW, which seems extreme for what we need here. While the openness and freedom of OpenStreetMap would be more in keeping with the ethos of Linux and the LCA, minimalism is also a lofty goal.
+

== How to use the Maps extension ==
+
If you are attending LCA2015 feel free to add and share information here for the benefit of all delegates.
We are mainly using the '''<nowiki>{{#display_map:}}</nowiki>''' method of the extension, and it requires at least one location as a parameter, which can be passed either as an address or coordinates.

To add a popup note to the location on the map, add a field using the tilde (~) character. This becomes the title of your popup, and can include any wikitext, including internal and external links.
