Welcome to the LCA2015 Delegate Wiki hackathon page. We'll be meeting at the [http://www.aucklandlibraries.govt.nz/EN/Events/Events/pages/makerspacecentralcity.aspx Makerspace at Central City Library] on Saturday 3-Jan-2015 from 1pm-4pm, to hack on the LCA2015 Delegate Wiki. This will be a single, short burst of unified effort to work on the structure and content of the LCA2015 Delegate Wiki before the conference starts.

The hackathon is open to any lca delegate, speaker, volunteer, or organiser to participate in, whether you can be there in person or not. [[User:Augur_.|<font color="#703931">'''ᏜᏠᎶᏠᏑ'''</font>]] will be at the Makerspace between 1pm and 4pm, and would love to see as many Auckland-based helpers there as possible. We'll also register a temporary IRC channel on FreeNode during the event, called ##linux.conf.au-wiki, along with a Twitter hashtag of #lca2015wiki, which can be used for participants from outside of Auckland to communicate with those physically present at the Makerspace. There will be a computer set up at the Makerspace specifically to watch these channels, which any attendee at the Makerspace can use. {{newleft}}

Our hacking on the Maps extension so far has shown that without the added support of the full [[mw:Extension:Semantic_MediaWiki|Semantic MediaWiki]] (SMW) installation, the Maps extension works sufficiently, but only with Google Maps. To enable the full featureset of the Maps extension would require installing SMW, which seems extreme for what we need here. While the openness and freedom of OpenStreetMap would be more in keeping with the ethos of Linux and the LCA, minimalism is also a lofty goal.

There is a shared folder on [https://mega.co.nz/#F!ntBy0JbA!PUNRscEt4J9xfbkzlNCzVQ MEGA.co.nz] which has been set up specifically for the hackathon. Certain people have been given full write access to the folder by default. If you think you might need to send a file to the shared folder during the hackathon, please contact [[User:Augur_.|<font color="#703931">'''ᏜᏠᎶᏠᏑ'''</font>]] on his [[User_talk:Augur_.|talk page]].

We are mainly using the '''<nowiki>{{#display_map:}}</nowiki>''' method of the extension, and it requires at least one location as a parameter, which can be passed either as an address or coordinates.

Please only upload files that are relevant to the hackathon. This shared folder should only be used for small text files and images that cannot be uploaded directly to the wiki by participants. It will also contain a shared copy of the maps and floorplans, as they are being worked on.

About the Maps extension for MediaWiki

The LCA2015 Delegate Wiki is embedding interactive maps directly onto wiki pages, to make it more convenient for delegates to find relevant locations without having to leave the wiki. This facility is provided via the Maps Extension for MediaWiki.

Why only Google Maps are showing

Our hacking on the Maps extension so far has shown that without the added support of the full Semantic MediaWiki (SMW) installation, the Maps extension works sufficiently, but only with Google Maps. To enable the full featureset of the Maps extension would require installing SMW, which seems extreme for what we need here. While the openness and freedom of OpenStreetMap would be more in keeping with the ethos of Linux and the LCA, minimalism is also a lofty goal.

How to use the Maps extension

We are mainly using the {{#display_map:}} method of the extension, and it requires at least one location as a parameter, which can be passed either as an address or coordinates.

{{
#display_map:
12 Grafton Rd, Auckland
}}
{{
#display_map:
-36.852881,174.771341
}}

To add more locations to a map, terminate all but the final one with a semicolon (;) character

{{
#display_map:
12 Grafton Rd, Auckland;
22 Symonds St, Auckland;
14 Whitaker Pl, Auckland;
26 Nicholls Ln, Auckland
}}

To add a popup note to the location on the map, add a field using the tilde (~) character. This becomes the title of your popup, and can include any wikitext, including internal and external links.

{{
#display_map:
12 Grafton Rd, Auckland~[[Location|Owen G Glen Building (OGGB)]]
}}

To add descriptive text under the title of the popup, add a second field with a second tilde (~) character. Again, this can include any wikitext, including internal and external links.

{{
#display_map:
12 Grafton Rd, Auckland~Owen G Glen Building~This will be the main venue for the conference.
}}
